Possibly one of the best parts of doing family photography is getting to watch kids grow up. As a photographer I see the kids regularly enough to know them and during our sessions we usually have fun, do some exploring, and play. Lawson is an absolute cutie who I saw as a one-year old smashing cake, and as a real charmer in some urban family portraits and holiday card portraits. We spent a long morning today at Historic Oak View this fall exploring the park, petting the goats, and taking lots of fun photos! I can't wait to meet up with this wonderful family again for a holiday mini session - if you're thinking about taking photos for holiday cards the time to do this is now, so book soon!
Read MoreI can't even tell you how much I adore this family! The Mazzottas are amazing and with two little girls bursting with energy a session with this family is always exciting! We explored Historic Oak View where the two girls pretended to be junior biologists tracking all the wildlife and checking out the cotton field. (And let's be honest, we adults enjoyed ourselves seeing cotton up close too - it's not that often you run into a cotton field any more, but it's still cool!) Plus with all their energy and love for each other the blooper reel for these kiddos provides some of the best laughs. Check out the highlights and then the full album below!
Read MoreWhat do you say when someone says they'd like some family and maternity photos with their husband, dogs, and mother? Oh yes! I loved the idea of including the furry family members in this session and there's something so special about capturing generations in one photo. I personally treasure the generational photos of my family from when I was a baby, and I loved Sam's eagerness to include her mom who was in town from Colorado. Congratulations Sam and Todd, and baby Zurlinden, you've got one awesome family waiting for you!
Read MoreWhat do you do when you've got an adorable teeny tiny cockapoo puppy joining the family? Take family pics, of course! Meet Stormy, a sweet little pupper whose favorite things are shoelaces and fingers, and whose collar is as big as her. Little dark and Stormy is lucky to have such great dog parents, and is sure to be adorably spoiled. Welcome, Stormy!
Read MoreSometimes little newborns absolutely do not want to nap during their session. I can't blame them; if I were just a few days old I'd be eager to see and soak in every bit of the world that I could! But even if she wasn't too thrilled about the napping bit, little Paige was a joy to work with. From her Wonder Woman pose with her arms curled and flexed to her captivating eyes to her incredible finger grip that stayed clenched even in sleep (as a rock climber I'm pretty jealous of that finger strength!), she was such a fun baby! And even if she needed a minute to be soothed, her four-legged family members were eager to steal the show. Welcome, Paige Burns! We're so excited to see you flex those muscles and take on the world.
Read MoreTravis and Kristen had a very private morning wedding ceremony at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Chapel Hill. It was just family in attendance with a couple friends-who-are-like-family, and when I arrived the church volunteer who was organizing the ceremony exclaimed, "Oh! I'm so glad you're here! This is such a simple wedding - the simplest I've seen in years!" I smiled knowing that Travis and Kristen had a bigger shindig planned later that day at the Carolina Inn and that this morning ceremony was all about simplicity and intimacy.
